Just been reading localnewspaper the Leitrim Observer and soon as I opened it, out fell a brochure from the northern ireland tourist board extolling the virtues of travelling north this Christmas. I also noticed a few adds inside the paper from northern irish business including liquor stores!
Imagine my confusion then when i read the papers own weekly column which this week voiced concerns over the increasing number if people heading north since the British vat rate cut and the effect of this exodus on local border county economies. Some contradiction eh!
I had intended to give up my policy of not travelling north to shop, the vat rate cut makes it very tempting but im gonna shop local this Christmas. Local businesses have been good to me and im not so poor that i need to save a few bob and support the Queen’s economy. Well apart from a few online gadget purchases!
